The Therapeutic Power of Writing

Any form of art can be therapeutic. As I see it, any activity that gives you pleasure and takes your mind away from your the power of creative writing has a positive impact on your mental health. However, writing is a powerful therapeutic resource: it makes you confront your problems but at the the power of creative writing time, gives you the skills to solve them.

The concept is simple: just write whatever goes in your mind, with no filters or judgments. The r e are no rules: just sit down and write. Writing therapy is a bit different than journaling. Journaling is used to record events and emotions attached to it. Writing with therapeutic purposes is to be focused on trauma: you write jackson writing custom deserializer what hurts you.

You got it out of your system, that was the goal.

What you wrote was how you felt at that moment, tomorrow you will feel differently. Going back and reading what you wrote in your writing therapy session might not be helpful. Personally, I like to keep all my journals, and sometimes I read them. I am capable of healing myself. Writing therapy will help you to live happier and soften your emotional suffering. Choose your weapons, paper or screen, pen or pencil, and get your soul naked. Keeping your pain and your emotions locked inside you is not beneficial.

The power of creative writing



In an increasingly digital world dominated by quick-hitting news, social media scrolls and click-bait content, Brianna Wodabek still marvels at the persistent powers of storytelling. Writing has been a life-long source of enjoyment for Winters-Sayle. But studying it and pursuing it as a career? That was a different story.

After high school, Winters-Sayle pursued studies in other areas, first in Law and then in Police Foundations. It ended up giving much more than that. Midway through her first semester, Winters-Sayle discovered editing was a way that allowed her to work in writing without having to write.

The following semester, she helped co-found Savant Garde, and she also began building a network by volunteering with literary festivals such as The Word On The Street in Toronto. The latter is still something Winters-Sayle intends to do — on her own time. I feel different.

I feel changed. I feel grown. I also want to use storytelling as a voice for the people who may not have one, and I want to instill love, compassion and respect. Wodabek did just that through a two-page spread she wrote for Pause.

Jessica Pulis and Dr. That perspective has already helped her find work in publishing, a passion she never knew she had. Four months after securing an internship at an Oakville publishing firm as a first-year student, Wodabek was hired as an editorial assistant, then became a publishing co-ordinator. When creative writing and publishing studies are brought together, it makes for such a strong individual.

She found similar comfort a few years later when reading a book by N. Jemisin, the first African-American writer to win a Hugo Award for Best Novel, did more that day than earn a fan for life.

Jemisin definitely changed the world for me. Another was published this summer by Filling Station , a magazine that promotes innovative and original Canadian poetry, fiction and literary journalism.

Literature and poetry can really help us understand many common social problems and anxieties that might be impacting us. By practicing writing , you might find that you have a new and more profound appreciation for novels and poetry. There is an almost unlimited wealth of books and articles circulating in the world, just waiting to be explored. There is also something to be said for the social aspect of sharing and workshopping your writing. For some, the idea of sharing creative writing might seem ridiculous and scary. However, amazingly authentic bonds can be created between people who are willing to share their own writing and engage with the work of others.

These experiences can be similar to group therapy, where important and complicated issues might be discussed, or alternatively, they can be great opportunities to learn how to better take and give criticism, and to work with people from different walks of life. In most cities, there are open writing circles that are happy to accept new members. In fact, a combination of the two is probably ideal. For example, a journal can be used to empty out a deluge of ideas onto the page.

Stream-of-consciousness writing is a very powerful tool because it allows you to break down those mental walls that may have been put up in your mind to block out difficult thoughts. In that sense, journaling is very therapeutic in its own right. That stream-of-consciousness can then be further explored, and transformed, with practice, into beautiful lines of poetry or fiction. This process of transformation will allow you to see your thoughts and visions in a spectacular new light, and can be one of the most healing, inspiring, and peaceful experiences we can possibly hope to have.

Journaling is a deeply personal journey that helps us explore and dissect our feelings and emotions. Creative writing can help enrich our relationship with the people and world around us.

In many ways, the blank page is like your first trip to see a therapist.
